Commissioners Order Express Rates Increased.

Washington, July 22. —Modifying a previous order the interstate commerce commission today held that the present revenue of the principal express companies are inadequate and provided for additional revenues. Under the commission’s ruling a wholesale revision of rates must be made. The Adams, American, Southern and Wells Fargo express companies petitioned March 16 for a reconsideration of the schedules previously imposed on them. After the closest economies they asserted they folind it impossible with this schedule to make revenues meet expenses. The commission on going over the matter agreed that the showing proves the truth of the companies’ contention, and decreed a complete and prompt revision of figures. A revision will give the companies 3.86 per cent incerase in their gross earnings.
