RESIDENCE LIGHT RATES TO BE REDUCED
Various Matters Acted Upon at Regular Meeting of City Council Monday Evening. All members of the city council were present at, the regular meeting Monday evening except Councilman Tobias. L. Strong and others presented a petition asking relief from the periodical flood caused by the Makemself sewer being unable to carry all the water of the country north of the railroad in addition to the water it was designed to carry. The council instructed the city engineer to go over the ground and ascertain what can be done to relieve the situation. The city treasurer’s report was received and referred to the finance committee. The ordinance giving the Lafayette & Northwestern Traction Company the use of Cullen, Forest and Vine streets for its tracks was passed to third reading. An ordinance to regulate the water and light plant was passed to the second reading. An ordinance prohibiting the use of fire works in the corporate limits was introduced and passed to second reading. The city attorney was instructed to make application to the public service commission for a reduction of the residence light rate to the same rate as now paid in the business district.
