RACES POSTPONED UNTIL MONDAY A. M.

Rain and Chill Responsible for Decision to Hold Event Over—Half Drowned Tourists. 1 * The auto races at Indianapolis have been postponed until Monday. Rain, hard, steady rain, caused the decision to postpone the 500-mile international sweepstakes event. Chilly weather for several days and rain much of the time was followed by a regular deluge last night and this morning and many motor parties turned back to Chicago after they had gone to varying distances from the city. Many oars that arrived in Rensselaer brought passengers who had made their way through almost seas of water and they reported that many cars had given up the trip and were returning to Chicago. There was no comparison this year with the great rush of former years and the oars that reached here resembled a straggling band as compared with the steady stream of former years. Several messages were received here at about 1 o’clock, all confirming the report that the races had been postponed.
