Kitchener’s Comment

A good story is going the rounds about what Lord Kitchener said the other day after he had inspected some defense works on the east coast. It is short and sweet. The war minister motored from point to point, walked over the ground but never said a word all-afternoon until the momqpt he was leaving for London. Then he opened his grim mouth. “Those trenches of yours,” he said, “wouldn’t keep out the Salvation Army.” Some men practice economy only when they are buying for their wives.
