April Fool Prank Causes Death.
Frank Stein, of Evansville, was shot and almost instantly killed as the result of an April fool prank, when Charles Pooley, a bartender pointed a revolver at him and pullet the trigger. Pooley told the police later that he thought the gun was not loaded and intended to say “April fool” when Stein showed signs of fear. Walter Schmidel, proprietor of the saloon, had replaced the revolver with another w T hich was loaded, unknown to Pooley.
