Prof. James Naismith of the Springfield Training school, introduced basket ball twenty-three years ago. .George Whitted has accepted terms with the Braves; but the public is more interested in knowing whether or not he-will pass on to the Phils. Nothing known as yet. Jack Coombs may appear in a new role this season. McKeever, in confirming the report of his signing, said that Coombs would probably be used as a coach for youthful flingers. - ' - . ■■ By signing William Duncan of Scotland, as goalkeeper, the Bethlehem (Pa.) socker football team, representing the Schwab steel works, have got together probably the strongest eleven ever formed in this country. The first 1915 come-back is Harty Wolter. Wolter clipped the pill at considerably better than .300 on the Coast last season and, is to make the trip out there with the Yanks in an effort to again make good in major company. The recent Canadian election resulted in several well known sportsmen being chosen for offices of mayor, including George A. Stiles, of Cornwall’s hockey team; Harry Mahoney, one of Guelph’s -beat curlers, and Bob CumD, who was one of the pair that brought to Crillia thw double sculling championship of Canada and the United States.
