The C. W. B. M. of the Christian church, Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Chas. Peck. (Presbyterian (Missionary Society meets Thursday with Mrs. Frank’ Howard. The Parent-iPa(tron association meets Thursday evening at the high school. (Miss Amanda Chesterson was in town the first of the week disposing of some of her household goods. Fred Hicks spent the foreweek in Chicago. iMr. and Mrs. Ernest Rawlings and daughter visited his mother last Thursday. invitations are out for a valentine masquerade in the O. E. S. Chapter room on Fdb. 18th. A prize for the best costume. (Mrs. Sam Thompson, of Monticello, spent the past week with her mother.
Mrs. A. G. Lueas and children, of Rensselaer, visited relatives and friends, returning home by auto bus Wednesday. Mrs. Ella Parks and son, Marlon, returned home Saturday from a stay in Washington Park hospital of two weeks. Marion is resting comfortably and Showing marked improvement since his operation. Special meetings will begin Feb. 21st in the Presbyterian church to continue three weeks. Rev. LeCount, of Lagrange, Ind., assisted by the pastor, Rev. .Bull, will have charge. Master Donald Rush, son of Marshal Lee Rush, was the lucky winner of the pony and cart in the Perry pony contest, conducted by several of the town’s leading merchants.
J. A. Blosser will give a series of four lectures in the Presbyterian church beginning Sunday evening, ■Feb. 14. Horace Hoover and family left the first gs the week to make their home in Lafayette. IM. O. Stokes has sold his property in Remington to Mr. Shelman. Mr. Stokes leaves for lowa abp.ut March Ist. - < —Mr. and Mrs. W. Johnston are entertaining a party of friends from Leßoy, 111. The (M. E. Ladies’ Aid surprised Mrs. Broadie last Thursday by filing into the house just as she was preparing the noon-day meal. Her preparations were carried no further, for evey detail of a sumptuous dinner had been prepared beforehand and from baskets to table was the trick of a moment. The afternoon was spent knotting comforts for the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Broadie are leaving March Ist for their recently acquired farm in New York.
James Lucas met with a terrible accident Tuesday morning while unloading a monument in the cemetery. The foundation piece got away from the two men as they endeavored to lower it and (Mr. Lucas suffered a fracture of one leg with the other badly crushed and (broken. Time only will develop the extent of the severe accident. He is the father of four children, the youngest being twins about ten years of age. The sympathy of the community is with Mr. ahd Mrs. Worden in the loss of their youngest daughter, Henrietta, on Tuesday morning of that dread disease diphtheria. The residence is under quarantine. No other cases In tht town as yet, although several of the family have been suffering with colds and sore throat.
(Mrs. A. Atwood was taken to Chicago last Friday after a week’s severe illness. On operation seems necessary, as her condition does not improve. The two months old child of Mr. and Mrs. Claud Gorman died Monday night Clubs. Study Club, library, Peb. 8, leader Mr. Twineham. Jolly Chib, a special program in preparation by a committee. Dorcas Club in session last week was received by Mrs. Coleman Merritt. Miss Margaret Johnston was at houte to the Sew and Sew Club Friday of last week. Several special guests were present.
