Ships' Hulls Quickly Cleaned.
Mr. F. C. Browne of Melbourne, Australia, has invented an ingenious machine for cleaning the hulls of ships below the water line. In this contrivance a watertight dynamo drives a revolving brush that is held firmly against the hull of the ship by a small propeller. After the machine has been lowered by crane from a small boat alongside the steamer, the , end that holds the rapidly revolving brush is worked up and down the sides of the vessel. It is stated that the machine can clean an 8,000-ton steamer in six br seven, hours.
