JONES CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER
Lowell Young Man Who Killed Cedar Lake Saloonkeeper Pound Guilty—Heilig to Be Tried.
The jury in the ease of the State vs. Glenn Jon&, of Lowell, who was charged with the murder of John Mitch, the Cedar Lake saloonkeeper, found the defendant guilty of manslaughter at Crown Point Sentence was not passed by Judge McMahon, who deferred this action until a petition asking that sentence be suspended be presented. It is quite probable that Jones will escape the penitentiary. The case was prosecuted by Attorney Patterson, while Attorney Schuyler C. Dwyer, of, Lowell, and Attorney Thad Handier, of Crown Point, appeared for Jones and made a strong fight for him. Ray Heilig, who was with Jones in Crown Point the day the murder was committed, and who was also indicted tor the crime, will be tried next week. He has hopes of getting free. Attorney Dwyer, who is associated with the defendant’s counsel, states that Jones testified on the witness stand that Heilig Was not present when the blows which caused Mitch’s death were struck. Mr. Dwyer stated to a representative of The Republican today that he believes Heilig can establish an alibi, proving that he was not present
