The report cards are to be issued to pupils Friday afternoon and not in the morning. This mention is made to correct a statement made a day or two ago that the cards would be given out Friday morning. Monticello is working hard for a factory. The Schultz Manufacturing Co., of Portland, Ora, is offering to locate there if a certain amount of stock can be sold. Up to Wednesday afternoon three-fourths of the required amount had been disposed of. Professor Jasques Loeb, formerly of the Universities of California and Chicago, but now at the Rockefeller Institute in New York, was elected correspondent of the French Academy of Sciences Monday in the section of anatomy and zoology In succession to the late Lord Avebury. _______ Some of the old soldiers at Jeffersonville are talking about the fact that the bull moosers have set their Third district congressional convention for New Albany on Decoration Day, next Saturday. They say that Decoration Day is not a day for politics and that no party should hold a convention on that day. We have been having some mighty hot weather for several days, the government thermometer at the college registering 91 on Monday, 92 on Tuesday and 89 Wednesday. Today seems quite as hot as any day yet There was another heavy rain. Wednesday afternoon and a little rain in the evening. Indications point to more nain today. Agricultural conditions were never better, the rain coming just in the nick of time. Over in Illinois, in some places, it is reported there has been considerable damage to wheat and oats on account of drouth, which is unusual at this time of year. Attorney J. A. Dunlap went to Chicago this morning on business relating to a big sale of 10-acre tracts of land near Kniman. The former Springer ranch, consisting of 1,520 acres, is now owned by the Southern Land Investment Co, of Chicago, and is now being surveyed and platted into 10-acre tracts. Roads are being constructed and other things done preparatory to conducting a big sale, which will be conducted by V- J- Crisler and Attorney Dunlap, of Rensselaer, assisted by Chicago parties. It is planned to run an excursion out from Chicago, over the Monon to MeCoysburg and thence over the Gifford branch to the Springer ranch. Much interest is bring taken In the ball game to be played here next Sunday, when the Western Stars, a Chicago colored team, will oppose the Athletics. The interest is increased because Renssriaer will have an improved line-up. Hatton, who played part of last year with Goodland, will play second base and Parks will go to right field. The team this year has been hitting better than ever before and spectator like the hitting game, provided the home team does the hitting. The colored lads are hitters, runners and fast fielders and the indication for entertainment will bring out a large crowd.
