Wednesday Rain Prevented Finish of College Ball Game.

The rain Wednesday afternoon stopped the ball game between St Joseph’s college and their old rivals, St. Viator’s of Kankakee. The game a fast one and the visitors led by score of 2 to 0 when the clouds opened up and a heavy rain occurred, while fans huddled together in the grandstand. The game was umpired by Mr. Daley, who follows that business for a living. Ricks was on the rubber for the college and Pemberton for the visitors and the battle was quite certain to be between the pitchers. Pemberton had the better of the argument up to the time the game was called. He struck out three in the first inning and three in the second and one in the third. He weakened some in the third, however, and Kihm hit safely and stole second and Daniels got a base on balls. With two out, however, Moloney layed a grounder to Pemberton, who threw him out at first. Ihe visitors scored in the third innig. Leonard was safe on Annen’s error. Kearns hit to Ricks, who tried to catch Leonard on first, but overthrew and the ball bounced past Daniels in center. Leonard romped home and Kearns tn third. Mortell hit to Moloney, Who threw Kearns out at the plate. Butler hit safely to right, Lawler flew out to McGinty, in left, and Pemberton rolled one to Deery, who made an unassisted put-out. In the visitor’s half of the fourth, Clancy, center fielder, who was first up, made a home run drive, the ball crossing the driveway in deep left. Kiley followed with a safe hit and tried to stretch it into a double and was thrown out Fitzgerald to Kihm. . Then Umpire Daley called the game just in time to get under cover before the deluge started.
