MAYOR ROBERTS IS RELEASED BY JURY

Terre Haute Executive Is Decreed Not Guilty on Conspiracy Charge. Terre Haute, Ind., May 7.—Mayor Donn M. Roberts, who has been on 'trial in the Vigo circuit court 46 days, on charges of conspiracy to corrupt elections of 1913, was acquitted by the jury tonight. Mayor Roberts was compelled to nfount a table -and respond to the cheers. He said: - “I cannot express my deep feeling. I want to thank my attorneys who have so loyally stood«by me at times when things appeared so dark. I thank the court for the fair treatment I have received and I want to thank my friend® for their kindly manifestation there tonight. My heart is too full, I cannot express my appreciation of this verdict” Special Prosecutor Joseph Roach was not in the court room when the jury returned the verdict A message only a few minutes before had called him to the bedside of his sick son. Prosecutor Roach completed his argument ait 9 o'clock and Judge Charles M. Fortune began reading lite instructions to the jury. The instructions, which were voluminous, were regarded by attorneys as favorable to the defendant. Judge Fortune finished reading the inatiuatioms Shortly after 10 o’clock. .
