Nothing “Dry” About Water Valley- Brother Wheeler.
Quite a’number will go to Water Valley* on the Kankakee river next Sunday to witness the ceremony of Christening Joe Haberzetl’s motor boat which he will launch for the season. As Water Valley is in dry territory the breaking of a bottle of wine over the boat’s bow will be dispensed with, and plain river -water will be used in its stead Grown Point Star. Brother Wheeler evidently has not visited Water Valley for some time and therefore is not familiar with the fact that there is a licensed saloon right at the river edge. It is .the only saloon, we believe, in Newton counity. The proprietor is Ben Hogji. Since the laiw requires Saloons to be closed on Sunday, however, it would not seem to make any difference whether there were saloons or not. However, we Imagine that Fogli will forget all about the day of the week and that anything that fe needed will be supplied without question, a custom that prevails quite generally across the line in Lake county and seems to be considered a privilege of the river district.
