GETTING TOGETHER
The primary election returns from Marion county are interesting and they are significant. Indianapolis is the home otf Senator Beveridge who is recognized as one of the leaders otf the progressive party faction which holds that a new party was born in the campaign of 1912. In the election of that year the progressives of Marlon county, who had but a single purpose at that time outnumbered the republicans who remained with the organization and voted for Taft. But it is quite evident that a large number of those who counted themselves progressives at that time did not surrender their title as republicans. Tuesday’s primary election in Marion county demonstrated that the republican party is getting in condition again. There was much commonplace, ordinary and practical politics in the Mairion county primary election of last Tuesday. The democrats contributed the greatest enthusiasm, for warring factions of democrats were engaged in a struggle over the patronage. The republicans offered clean men for office and trusted to the good judgment of the voters. The progressives gave all their energy to a desire that sought a better Showing than that otf the republicans. And the result shows that the republicans east over three votes to every one cast for the progressive candidates. There is nothing surprising to this showing. It is in line with every election that has been held since 1912. Republicans who filed their .protest in 1912 did so, not for the puprose of wrecking the republican party, but in the hope otf improving its organization. It is quite evident now that republicans who filed the protest in 1912 are republicans Still and that the party is getting together with renewed strength.
