Real Drug.

Rutger Jewett, the New York litterateur, gave a luncheon the other day at the Players’ club In Germany park and during the game course a club attendant brought to one of Mr. Jewett’s literary guests a long, omin-ous-looking envelope. At sight of this envelope, so familiar to all litterateurs, a shout of laughter went up. The object of the laughter blushed, and thrust the envelope hurriedly into his inside coat pocket. “It’s only an elegy, boys,” he said, “that the editor of Scribbler’s has turned down. Mr. Jewett shook his head. j "How true it Is,’’ he said, “that poetry is on the decline.”
