Butterless, Eggless Cake.

Cook together one cup of brown sugar, one cup of water, one-third cup of lard, two cups of seeded raisins, onexjuarter teaspoon of nutmeg, one teaspoon of cinnamon, one-half tagspoon of ground cloves and a pinch of sp.lt.— Boil for three minutes and cool. Add one tehspoon of soda dissolved in twe teaspoons of hot water, two cups of flour in which one-half teaspoon of baking powder has been added.
