Pan-American Union.

The Pan-American union was organized for the purpose of promoting friendship and commerce between the 21 American republics, each of which contributes to the maintenance of an institution in proportion to its _ population. The building in Washington in which the union is housed stands upon land provided by the United States at the cost of $200,000, the cost of the building ($1,000,000) having been defrayed as to three-fourths by Andrew Carnegie, and as to one-fourth by the 20 republics of Latin America.
