Columbus Club Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day Here.
The Columbus Club of the local Knights of Columbus celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by holding their annual banquet at the home of Joe Halligan on Front street. At the first annual banquet given a year ago th*e club had but seven members and this year the membership has increased to eighteen and it is the hope and ambition of the club to douible their number by next year. ' At the meeting Tuesday evening Daniel Morrissey presided as toastmaster, introducing each of the following speakers on. the program: Rev. Father Daniels, “The Aim of the Knights of Columbus.” John O’Connor, “The Stars and Stripes.” T. M. Callahan, “Our Membership” . E. P. Honan, “The Rensselaer Columbus Club.” Hon. C. W. Hanley spoke about the Patriotism of the Irish-Ameri-ean.” William Burke sang several familiar American and Irish airs. The guests of honor were Judge Hanley and John O’Connor. There were also present several applicants who will join the club in the near future. The banquet table and rooms were decorated with American and Irish flags. The affair was a great success and it is the plan of the club to hold the next banquet .at St. Augustine’s school hall or at the hotel, owing to the rapidly increasing membership.
