Suicide “Holmes Castle" Mystery—Famous Chicago Crime.
Patrick Quintan suicided laat week near Portland, Mich. Quinlan was the builder of the famous “Holmes Castle,” at 63rd and Wallace streets, Chicago, which Dr. J. J. Holmes used in luring his victims to their deaths more than 20 years ago. Quinlan was employed by Holems until the latter was hanged for the murder of several persons, Ju9t how many lost 'heir lives because of Holmes is riot known. Quinlan constructed tiap doors, secret closets, mysterious wires and various contraptions in the “castle” and is presumed to have known more about Holmes’ murders than was ever disclosed. He was tried as an accomplice but there was no evidence for conviction. It was believed that he would some time tell all that he knew, but his suicide has cut off the possibility of ever learning the true story of Holmes’s operations. He lived with relatives lately 1 and they assigned as his cause for suicide that he could not sleep. He took strychnine.
