VILLA REFUSES TO SURRENDER BODY
Mexican General Will Not Accede to Request of U. S. or the Heart-Broken Widow.
General Villa has refused to accede to the request of the United States for the body of William S. Benton, the British subject who was killed o.p, orders of Villa last week. Even the tears and pleadings of the broken-hearted widow of Benton failed to move the obdurate general. The United States consul at Chihuahua had requested that Villa deliver the body so that it could be examined to find out whether he had really been killed by a firing squad as Villa reported. The United States will probe deeply into the methods of Benton’s death to satisfy the feeling in England. The cabinet at Washington is disposed not to act) rashly in the matter and to permit the investigation to be made thoroughly before taking any action. The feeling along the border is very bitter and Texas as a whole bitteily denounces Villa.
