There will be second degree work at the K. of P. hall Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Parkinson were in Lafayette Friday and Saturday. Every Knight should try to come and bring his family to the hall Thursday night to listen to the program in commemoration of. the fiftieth anniversary of the order. It is an open public meeting and the ladies are especially Lyman Zea received an order for a half dozen bottles of his Pain Killer Saturday from Sheriff Whittaker, of Lake county. The sheriff bought one bottle while here last Tuesday to attend the republican conventior/and wrote back that it was the best thing he had ever seen of its kind and ordered a half dozen.. Mr. Zea will canvass at Crown Point this week and his medicine will have the highest endorsement of the sheriff.

Chas. A. Gundy, of Fair Oaks, whose family are spending the winter in Rensselaer so that the children can have the advantage of high school, was here over Sunday. Charley is a candidate for the republican nomination for sheriff and makes the claim that it is time Union township was recognized, as only one man, John E. Alter, from that township, has held county office in thirty years or more. Charley has been working for some time on the bridge gang of the C., I. & S. railroad, with headquarters at Gibson, 111. He says there are many men out of employment in the Calumet region and that he never saw such great lines of men looking, for employment.
