Mrs. Rebeoca Albaugh returned to Chicago this morning after a visit of tiwo weeks with her niece, Mrs. Eli Arnold and other relatives. 'Misses Grace and Fame Haas and Verne Haas, of Hammond, spent Sunday with their brother, C. A. Haas, and family in Lafayette. A daughter was born Friday to Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Lehman, of Oklahoma City. Mrs. Lehman was formerly Miss Ethel Spriggs, of this city. Eli Arnold Writes from California that he is having a most delightful winter there and that he will probably remain until the middle of March. Aflonse Bertillon, creator of the system for the identification of criminals, which made his name known throughout the world, died in Paris Friday, aged 61.
Under the will of Miss Antoinette Fell, of Bedford, Purdue University and Earlham college of Richmond, Ind., share an estate of $150,000 about equally. With the barrel of a shotgun he was cleaning pressed against his abdomen, Elias Hedrick, of Wabash, 38, accidentally pulled the trigger. He lived half an hour after the accident. ' - Frozen pipes made it impossible to hold school n the primary building ths morning and the children were sent to their homes. By noon the difficulty had been adjusted and the building was comfortable. Prof. S E. A Spaulding, principal of the Emerson high school in Gary, Friday was found not guilty of assault and battery. Secretary Bryan and Dr. Paul Ritter, minister from Switzerland, Friday signed a treaty binding the United States and Switzerland to submit to investigation for at least one year all questions which cannot be settled by diplomacy. A team of heavy black geldings will be sold instead of one as originally advertised at Ed Eilt’s sale next Friday, at the Salisbury ranch, nine miles north and threefourths miles west of Rensselaer. Also a good coming 3-year-old gelding will be sold.
Lieutenant Herman B. Tuteur was in South Bend Sunday, where he took the examination for commission as first lieutenant, to which office he was promoted last fall. He was also examined as to his qualifications for the office of captain, in case of vacancy. Dr. Jacob Ogborn, 93 years of age, died last Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Paul Ward, near Reynolds. He had not practiced medicine for twenty-five years, but prior to that time had practiced almost half a century. He was buried Saturday at Montmorenci. = The fire department was called to the home of Charles (1 Spencer at 8 o’clock Friday morning. A spark from the chimney had caught in the roof and a space about 4 feet square was burned before the blaze was put under control. No serious damage was done.—The Monticello Journal. The dredge now digging on the lower end of the Monon has excavated about one mile into the cutoff. It is now located in Beaver township and will probably reach the White county line within the next month. The dredge is throwing more dirt than it did in the old channel because the route is new—Francesville Tribune.
The McDowell Brotherhood ot the Methodirt; church gill give a Washington banquet next Friday evening. The supper will be served at 6:30 o’clock. A fine and entertaining program of addresses, recitations and special music will be rendered. All the men of the church are especially invited. The ladies of the church will prepare an excellent supper for 25c. Enwin Lange, the pitcher who shut out the Comers in the memorable battle at Monon last summer, has signed with the Chicago Federal League Club and should acquit himself well in this company. His battery mate of that day, Steinbrecker, is the property of the Cubs, but, while wishing him all the luck in the world, we can’t see him at all—Delphi Herald.
