SATAN’S MONSTROUS LIE; WHAT HARM IT DID

Wilmington, Del., Feb. &—Pastor Russell today called attention to the fact that the Bible teachings respecting Satan has been serionsly departed from by Christians. Nothing in it supports the thought that Satan is far away, superintending the torture of human-
ity, or that he has cloven hoofs, forked tail, horns, etc. On the contrary, the Bible describes him as originally one of God’s noblest creatures—a "cherub." Since his fall, Satan’s residence Is In our atmosphere—Tartarus. He is “the prince of the power of the air • that now worketb in the children of disobedience,” presenting himself as “an angel of light”—a servant of God. When and How Batan Fell. The Pastor stated that the Bible explicitly declares Satan’s sin to be pride and Improper ambition. Seeking to usurp Divine prerogatives, be.ensnared himself and rebelled against God. Fits ambition found no opportunity for exercise until man’s creation. Then, beholding this human pair, he perceived that to capture them would be to capture a race, and to achieve in this earth his ambitious plans. Satan took advantage of the test of loyalty which God put upon our first parents. Obsessing the serpent, he guided it continually to eat of the forbidden tree. The serpent not only did not die, but was the wisest of beasts, thus seemingly giving the lie to God's statement, “Thou shalt surely die.” The Pastor thinks It unnecessary to suppose that the serpent spoke audibly. Actions can speak. Eve was convinced that the Divine Law was selfish, and that the forbidden fruit was desirable, to make her wise. St Paul explains, that Adam was not deceived. Realizing that his beloved wife would die, he preferred to die with her. Hence he, became a wilful sinner. Presently God drove our first parents from Eden, that thus His death sentence might be executed.
Satan Adopted Another Plan. Disappointed in that humanity were perishing, Satan formed another plan. He would cope with God by injecting new life into the human race. He would have an empire, despite the Divine will. To do this he proposed to the angels that they materialize and live as men —contrary to their nature. To those who objected that this might displease God, Satan presented the argument that If God really possessed the power. He would have punished him, for be bad been an enemy of God for some time. The argument was successful, according to the Bible. For centuries a process of engrafting angelic vitality upon Ada pale stock progressed. We read, “The sons of God beheld the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all they chose.” We read that their children were “giants, men of renown ” But they bore no stamp of Dtvlne character. They were brutal, sensual, devilish. The children of Adam became the slaves of these giants. Thus the Scriptures tell us that the earth was filled with violence, and men’s thoughts were evil continually. Apparently Noah and his family remained pure Adamic stock. Then came the Deluge, already prepared for In the Divine Plan, and all mankind perished, except Noah and his family. Satan's Lie Otherwise Supported. Thwarted again. Satan began a new system of tactics—to persuade mankind that bis original lie was truththat those who seem to die really become more alive. To assist in this deception, be had the support of the fallen angels, sentenced with himself to remain to Tartarus—the atmosphere. Necromancers. witches and wizards were developed. The fallen angels, speaking through these mediums, per sonated the dead. Gradually, this system of error spread, until do nation can be found where these evil spirits have not Incorporated Satan’s lie. Even amongst Christians; Satan’s word Is accepted, and God’s Word rejected—- " The son) that stnnetb. it shall die ” The Foundation of All Errors. Pastor Russell declared that nearly all theological errors are based upon this doctrine of demons-that men do not really die Where, be asked, would be the doctrines of eternal torment, purgatory, masses for the dead. etc., if people really believed God’s Word that the dead are dead, and that tbelr only hope lies In the resurrection, se cured for them by Jesus’ death? The speaker believes that mediums, who today support Satan’s lie. ary themselves deceived. His pamphlet on Spiritism has recovered many bon est mediums, who after learning that Grey were agents »t Satan and bis demons, bar* bccoi w children of Goff* For literature on this subject, address-the Pastor at •rboklyp Tabernacle.
