Their Coats, Iq Beauty of Material and Aritstic Cut, Are Almost on a Par With Those Being Worn by Their Elders.

By MART DEAN.

The beauty of the coat materials designed for grownups this season has had its effect upon the coats for small folk.

Naturally the gorgeous embossed velvets and brocades are outside the province of children's clothes, but many of the plain and corded velvets and silks are used for coats for little folks and there are innumerable things among the soft woollen stuffs that are admirabljr adapted to the same purpose. : ■ - —;

Peau de peche, baby lamb cloth, wool velours, duvtyne, zibiline, ratine, chinchilla, wool corduroy—all in appropriate colors —make charming little coats

and along these light weight, thick and soft woolens are old favorites, euch as broadcloth, which never loses its popularity for children’s wear. Blue, from light to pastel, sapphire and navy is always a good color for the child’s coat. For very _small_ girls there are bewitching little models in light blue broadcloth, trimmed with narrow bands of fur

—ermine, seal, beaver or skunk. The little coat shown here was of light blue broadcloth trimmed all around the edge with a narrow line of baby lamb. There was a turn down collar 3f the baby lamb, brightened at the edge with a touch of rose velvet The belt at the back and sides was of the (ur and ornamented in front with large buttons of red velvet Directly in front there was an inset belt of the material. There are sapphire blue coats, too, In corded velvet,, with tiny collars of fur, and there are exquisite aid blues in the plain -velvets which are lovely with touches of dark fur. Velvet in all the dark and medium tones of blue, in black, In browns from land to beige, in warm dark greene md in many beautiful shades of red, Is used for smart little coats and almost invariably is fur-trimmed. An attractive little model in all

white was seen recently. The coat Is of corduroy and the trimming consists of a narrow band of coney forming the collar and edging the left side of the coat at the fastenlng. There is a girdle of the corduroy fastened with a large material buckle. A small white muff of the coneyaccompaules the coat, and a hat of white plush. Of the little party frocks for the small girl it is hard to convey any any impression In print. Simplicity of line, childlike quality and dainty coloring are the essen-

tial features of such garments, which must be seen to be appreciated.
