THREE CHICAGOANS FINED FOR HUNTING
Game Warden ’‘Trig*’ Randall Arrested Three Saloonkeepers Who Were Visiting Here. It took Squire Irwin only a moment to dispose of three eases of illegal hunting this Thursday afternoon. Each one dfew a fine and costs amounting to $37.50. The men were three saloonkeepers from Chicago, who had come to visit Matt Nesius, 9 miles southeast of Rensselaer. They gave the names of Peter Steimel, Dick WaltersantiJohn Hunter, but it is understood that these are ficticious names and that the men wished to conceal their real names foaJear that they would bankrupt themselves “setting them up” to customers who jollied them after their return to the city.
The same men .are understood to have come here on a visiting and hunting trip a year ago and J. H. Randall, a Monticello game warden, was after them at that time but they slinped out before he made on arrest. Wednesday some one telephoned Randall and ,he lost no time in driving from Monticello to Matt Nesius’s home. The men were at dinner at the time but Randall saw their guns and ten or a dozen rabbits and he had the “goods” on them. There was consilerable stalling before Randall was admitted to the house, but after he had talked with the men they admitted their guilt and promisted to appear for trial this Thursday morning. True to their word they met the game wafden here and pleaded guilty to the charge and gave checks in settlement. Nesius guaranteed that the fines would be settled. While prosecuted only for hunting without a license, they could also have been charged with killing rabbits out of season, but Mr. Randall says that he does not want to persecute any one but just to compel them to understand that the law must he obeyed. It will probably be some time before these men will come here hunting again and it is also probable that their experience will serve to stop others who have come here on visiting and hunting trips.
