HIGH SCHOOL BOY ACCUSED OF RAPE
Frances Klinger Preferred Charges Against Edward M. HonanPreliminary Saturday.
Prances Klinger, 17 years of age, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman of the J. A. Dunlap and Vernon Orisler farm in Gilr lam township, and who had foi some time been employed in the home of Attorney and Mrs. Edward P. Honan, has caused the arrest of Edward M. Honan, their 18-year-old son, on a charge of rape. Young Honan, who is a member of the senior class of the Resnselaer high school and who was the center for the high school football team, stoutly denies the charge and his father states that he is convinced of his son’s, innocence and will fight the prosecution bitterly. Young Honan was arrested this Wednesday morning by Constable Parks and taken before Squire Irwin and admitted to bail in the sum of $2,000, his father, E. P. Honan, signing the bond. A preliminary hearing was set for Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Prosecuting Attorney Longwell, of Brook, and Deputy Prosecutor Delos Dean, of Rensselaer, appeared for the state and stated to Squire Irwin that the girl would be here Saturday to state her charges, which are substantially that the act was committed at the Honan home on the evening of Thursday, Jan. Bth, while his parents were absent. Rumors of this case have been afloat in Rensselaer for several days and some greatly exaggerated tories have been told. The Klinger girl hjred a livery rig Priday and was taken to her home in Gilliam township, albout 6 miles from Medaryville. There she related the circumstances of the. alleged assault to her mother, who accompanied her to Rensselaer and the charges were made before Deputy Ptoisecu tor Dean. Mr. Dean conferred bj telephone with Prosecutor Longwell, who came over Tuesday and with Mr. Dean drove to the Kling er home. The affidavit was filed by Mr. Longwell after their return to Rensselaer.
