“TAKE IT WITH YOU” MICHIGAN CITY PLAN

Outgoing Officials of That -Town Took Everything That Was Loose—Got Roasted. Michigan City News. * Had the decorations on the walls-, of the city offices been loose they/ would probably have gone with the other things that have simultaneously disappeared with the outgoing old city administration. No one but those who are meeting the deplorable conditions can realize how. contemptible a little defeat can make some people who caqnot rise above hatred and spite for the rivals who have defeated them in the good will expression of the people. Words will not do the subject justice; and all the more is the surprise that in some instances it comes from sources where such conditions had been least expected. Every city officer who retired from public office in this city the past week should have had that same courtesy, the same gentility and the same broad-minded intelligence which characterizes civilization and aids in the uplift of mankind everywhere and should have done unto his successor as he would have had his predecessor do unto him when he assumed office—should have extended to his successor his hearty aid and support in getting rightly started in the duties of the office front which the one has just retired and upon which the other is just entering. These are the affairs of the public, not private nor personal. People have a right to ask, that at least the rules which common courtesy demands be observed by those who have served in public office and drawn from the public treasury the emoluments thereof.
