Murphy Won Fight Against Isherwood in Tippecanoe.

The democratic state committee in Indianapolis Tuesday put to complete rout the Isherwood forces in Tippecanoe county. Last June the Tippecanoe county chairman died. On Dec. 6th a few democrats held a star chamber convention in Lafayette and selected-Reno Isherwood, a Charles J. Murphy opponent, for chairman. The state committee has decided the election illegal and placed David M. Boyle, secretary of the committee, temporarily in charge. The Isherwood plan of selecting delegates to the district convention wais disapproved. Isherwood and his crowd are said to have desired the right to appoint a “select” committee to choose the delegates. A strange proceeding for a crowd that was shouting “boss” and “crook” at the other fellow.

Tuesday John Shaw and Al Krabbe, of Lafayette, visited Editor Babcock, who is said to have given them to*understand that he has the delegate right of Jasper county in his pocket. Krabbe informed the editor of The Republican that they favor a county primary, the winners to take all the delegates. He said: “We are opposed to the Murphy plan of township and precinct primaries, because in that way Murphy wouldget part of the delegates.” The writer remarked: “Is not your plan of a county primary at variance with your party’s policy in establishing small units of sa loon option?”

Mr. Krabbe was quick to respond: “Yes, but then we wanted the saloons.” f There you have it from 6 Mr. Krabbe’s standpoint. He believes in the adoption of whatever unit seems most certain to get him and his crowd what they want. It seems strange to see Reno Isherwood making a howl against the Murphy-Taggart crowd, on the grounds of corruption. Isherwood is of the. same belief of Krabbe and Durgan in the matter' of salgons. He entered the newspaper busjjess in Lafayette when the first big saloon fight was on and I his paper made an open fight ip favor of saloons. And Isherwood allowed himself to be made the chairman of Tippecanoe county by a handful of democrats three weeks before the organization- was legally called. It is in favor of such politics that Editor Babcock is burning up hfs front page. It will be interesting to watch the results of the primaries in Jasper county, where the opponents of Murphy are headed by the same crowd of democrats who defeated Commissioner Stackhouse and the same crowd who are charged with having voted against O. K. Rainier. It will be interesting to see whether these men can control the votes of real democrats in support of their personal fight against Charles J. Murphy.
