Former Rensselaer Attorneys In Big Lake County Cases.
Two important cases in Lake county are being tried and in both former Rensselaer attorneys are representing the plaintiffs. In one the case is against Prosecuting Attorney James A. Patterson on impeachment proceedings and George E. Hershman, now of Crown Point, has been appointed special prosecutor to represent the attorneygeneral’s office and will conduct the case against Patterson. Judge Harry B. Tuthill was to nave heard the case but illness caused him to withdraw and Cassius M. Greenlee, of Gary, was appointed as special judge.
The other case is the result of an apparent high-handed effort on the part of some politicians in the town of Hobart. The men were members of the Hobart town board and defeated for re-election. In order to maintain 1 the political complexion of the council they increased the number of wards by two and appointed two new councilmen. This would serve to retain the same school board and the same city attorney, which does not seem to have been the wish of the voters. Suit has”been brought to annul the action of the board and Attorney Jesse E. Wilson, of Hammond, is employed by the plaintiffs, The taxpayers of Gary are opposed to the high-handed proceeding of the city council and are making a vigorous fight/ The case is being heard by Judge Virgil S. Reiter in the Hammond superior court.
