Says Chickens are Above a Girl’s Virtue.
Montieelk) Journal. Yesterday Clifford Archer was sentenced by the circuit court on the finding of jury yesterday to a term of from 1 to 8> years in the reformatory at Jeffersonville. The man was accused of stealing chickens. In the same jail with Archer is to be found James Willis, who is serving out a 90-day jail sentence imposed as a penalty for criminal assault on a young defenseless girl. The comparison is such as to create a feeling of dissatisfaction with the jury system, and tends trr create the impression that even a civilized people attach more value to property and the offenses against the same than to the virtue of women and girls. Tt. is no wonder mob violence takes the place of the law of the land and of the judge and jury in many - places.
