LEWIS DAVISSONS LONG LIFE AT END
Stroke of Paralysis Suffered Last Sunday Direct Cause of Death of Aged Citizen. Lewis Davisson died Thursday night at 5 minutes after 9 o’clock at his home on Weston and Rutsen streets. He had been a sufferer ifor many years from caneer, which had impaired his sight, but up to several months ago he was able to be about the streets and prior to last Sunday when he suffered a stroke of paralysis he was cheerful and patient although realizing that death was approaching slowly. The paralytic stroke hastened the end and for several days it had been realized that death was near at hand. Lewis Davisson was born in Johnson county. Ind., Nov. "21, 1826, and at the time orhis death lacked only 8 days of bfcing 87 years of age. He came to Jasper county in 1856, and for many years resided on farms in Union and Barkley townships. When nearing 80 years of age, still a vigorous man, he retired to spend his declining years in town. The malignant growth that contributed to his death, deprived him of much of the pleasure that his many years of active and frugal life had entitled him to, but notwithstanding this affliction he was a patient sufferer and a pleasant and interesting gentleman. Mrs. Davisson died in September, 1906. He is survived by seven children, two daughters and five sons, namely, Miss Hannah Davisson, who kept house for her father; George, Amos, Grant and Mrs. Mary Swaim, all living on farms north of this city, and Harvey and Josiah Davisson, who reside in town. The funeral will be held at the residence, Saturday morning at 10 o’clock, being conducted by Rev. C. L. Harper, assisted by Dr. Paul C. Curnick. Mr. Davisson had himself arranged with Rev. Harper about the services, while the latter was pastor of Trinity M. E. church. The Masons will also have their part in the service, the deceased having been a member of that onder for upward of sixty years.
