John Budd was a most sedate, precise and altogether exemplary young man. Whom ho wooed and won Susan Smiley, the belle of the village, everybody rejoiced at John's good fortune. However, he boro his triumph with modesty and decorum until the day of the wedding. Then for one awful moment, his air of aplomb failed him. When the officiating clergyman asked, "Will you, John, take this woman to be thy wedded wife?” John responded, blushingly. “Yes, please."
