Snapped Witness.
Photographers assigned to cover the Wagner committee hearings and get pictures of, important witnesses who suggested police reforms were seated at a table so situated that the cameras were pointed at the back of the witness chair. In their distressing predicament the photographers were gallantly saved time after time by the strategy of Senator Herrick. This member of the legislative committee also sat behind the witness. When the cameras were poised and flashlights ready he invariably came to bat with a questjjpn. In order to face him, the person had to turn half around—and at that instant the flashlight popped. The senator’s questions were always intelligent and pointed, and of course nobody suspected him of doing it just to oblige the camera men. Nevertheless he is likely to get the solid vote of the craft if he runs for office again-
