Egging on Mother.
Hugh Fullerton, in addition to being one of our leading ball scientists, is a famous cbok. He comes by this gift naturally, as his mother is known far and wide for cooking. Occasionally Mrs. Fullerton, Sr., bakes a cake which she delivers to her less talented son. gne day she brought out a magnificent cake, arriving just at dinner time. When the cake was being eaten the baseball writer remarked: “Mother you don’t cook as well as you -used to. This cake is not up to your usual standard.” At that, the late Joe Ryan, who was present at the dinner, became highly excited. “Don’t you believe him,” ho cried. "This is the best cake I have ever eaten. It couldn’t be any better.” ■ : “Hush," whispered Fullerton. "Of course, it’s good. But if I tell her she can’t cook as well as she used to, she’ll bake me another just to prove she can. Hush! not a word.”— Woman’s World.
