Tom Hughes’ Ambition.
Long Tom Hughes, wonderful veteran of the American league, an example of longevity almost in the class of Matbewson and Plank, realizes that he is at the end of his string, and wants to Umpire. Hughes has been pitching, chiefly in the big league, for 14 years and thinks be knows the game well enough to hold down the indicator for Ban. It was back in 1903 that Long Tom and Bill Dineen were the two wonderful pitchers of immortal Jimmy CoHlnu' old Boston Americans.
