Stranger Sold Road Duet As Stove Polish Substitute.

A smooth stranger is said to have worked a game on a housewife at the north edge of town yesterday. According to the 9tory reported by the officers, he approached the house in the capacity of a canvasser for stove polish and offered to demonstrate his wonderful pilish, which he was allowed to do. He had a rag with some polish on it and touched up a corner of the stove with such splendid results that the housewife willingly gave him 35 cents for a package. After he had gone the lady opened the package to use some of the polish and found that the box was filled with dust from the road. He had informed her that it was non-explosive and absolutely harmless and to this she readily agreed, but it caused her to almost explode and she reported the matter to the officers, but the stranger evidently made no further attempt to hell the “polish,” for no trace of him could be found.
