Steadying Ships.
One of the latest of the many devices which have heen tried for preventing the rolling of ships at sea is Frahm’s anti-rolling tank, which- has been tested at Hamburg, and, it is said, to be installed on a new 55,000ton trans-Atlantic ship. It has also been tried on a warship. It consists of a U-shaped water reservoir placed crosswise inside the huli, and so adjusted that the movement of ths water, which can be controlled when neteseary by a/Nklve, counteracts the oscillations of the ship produced by the waves.
