Former Lafayette Man Calls Jap Question “Bunk.”
Charles Hasty, a former Lafayette resident, now a resident of California, writing of the Japanese question, says: “I presume that the middle west arid eastern press are featuring the “Jap” question and the aliens ineligible to citizenship law passed by this state. There is no excitement here whatever, the press giving the matter no more than the usual attention. There is perhaps ten per cent real Jap trouble and ninety per cent “bunk.” The progressive party last fall featured the “Jap invasion,” and as quite a number. were elected on that ticket, while others pledged to support a bill to prevent the Japs from acquiring more land—consequently they had to “make good” and pass the law, which they did, knowing full well that it would* be declared unconstitutional. California hi a great state—but it’s the state that “rocks the boat” However, It is hoped that it will outgrow these foolish stunts some day.”
