Goodland Automobile Party Has Narrow Escape.
Kentland Enterprise. The large Cadillac touring car owned by Harry Little, of Goodland, turned turtle into a ditch just east of Kentland yesterday morning, and its occupants- narrowly escaped death. Mrs. ' Little was at the wheel and with her was her daughter and Miss Lewis, of Kentucky. Flynn, of Earl Park, and a friend from Indianapolis were driving slowly on the main road. Mrs. Little was on the side track. There is some little rise from the side to the main track at that point, and after passing Mr. Flynn’s car Mrs. Little turned her car sharply to make the rise safely. In doing so the front wheels ran into some weeds bordering the opposite side of the road. The weeds were wet and slippery and to prevent skidding Mrs. Little made a quick turn toward the main traveled highway. But the turn was not in time. As the hind wheels ran into the weeds they skidded and the car slowly turned over- into the ditch. Mrs. Little was not driving fast and therefore the turn of the car was not rapid. Fortunately the car alighted with one end resting on a fence post, thus supporting it high enough to permit the occupants to crawl from beneath without scratch or injury. With rare presence of mind and quiet nerve Mrs. Little turned off the gasoline before extricating herself from the wreck and thus possibly averted a fire or an explosion. Mr. Little was notified and came promptily to his wife’s assistance, and later drove the car home, it being but little damaged.
