COLLEGEVILLE.
Last Sunday Rev. Simon Kuhnmeunch preached at All Saints’ church, Hammond. Th? occasion was the first-mass of Rev. John J. Gallagher. Father Gallagher is a graduate of'St. Joseph in the class of 1908. At the meeting of the Staadt’s Verband in Lafayette last Sunday Rev. Alexius Schuette delivered the sermon in St. Boniface church. Rev. Seifert, president of the college, also attended the celebration. The Varsity last Saturday invaded the Loyola University base ball territory and returned minus the long end of the score. But at that it was. a very good game, the best that the team has been engaged in this season. The young members of the team played the same consistent game on the field that they put up here. The fact that there was but one inning that figured in the scoring shows the caliber of ball played by both the teams. In the majority of rounds each team succeeded in getting men on bases, ' but when the stations were occupied >the pitchers tightened and the runs were not forthcoming. In the third the Varsity had the bases filled with none down, but were not able to score. In the sixth Loyola had the same opportunity, and a wild throw by Daniel let in two runs. After two were down the other two runs were scored on a neat single to center by Kerwin. Maloney, whose first big game it was, showed true form, and if he continues to develop the great form he shows at sixteen the Varsity pitching will be cared for for some years. Batteries: St. Joe, Maloney aryl Root; Loyola, Kerwin and McCoy. Next Sunday afternoon the Reserves, of West Lafayette, will play on the college grounds. The team promises a good game, as they are out for the northwestern Indiana championship. Maloney will again be on the slab for the college. Game called promptly at 3 o’clock;
