Ike Peck was a week end guest of relatives and friends. George Chappell was in Chicago for a few days last week on business. Fred Burger made a business trip to different points in Ohio last week. The commencement exercises of the Gilboa high school occurred Tuesday evening. The library committee are ready to receive the promised donations of books at the bank. Mrs. Wilcox came Tuesday evening to visit her daughters, Mesdames Parks and Kyle. The Presbyterian Missionary Society meets with Mrs. Wm. Beals next Thursday, May 8. Miss Gretchen Chappell came from Chicago Friday evening, where she has spent the winter. Miss Mary Clowry, of Champaign, 111., was a week-end visitor with Margaret Meehan last week. Maurice Eck came home from LaCrosse Friday evening for a short visit with parents and friends. Dan O’Connor moved his family and household goods to Tipton last week, where he has bought a billiard parlor. The high school chorus class has begun working in earnest on the music for the recital to be given commencement week. Hubert Cornwell is advertising a Michigan exhibit car to arrive in Remington Monday, May sth, at 8:15 a. m., for a 24-hour stay. H. H. Bowman came down Sunday from Monticello, his wife and baby returning home with him after a week’s visit with relatives. The public is invited by Father Schmitz to attend the ceremonial blessing of the new bells, on May 6 at 6 a. m., at Sacred Heart church. The Presbyterian Sunday morning services will be held in the Odd Fellows hall, beginning last Sunday and until further notice. Cottage Wednesday evening prayer meetings to be announced from the pulpit. The alumni play and minstrel program is well under way and will prove a treat. When such artists as O’Connor, Morris, Peck, Bowman, Balcom, etc., are assembled for an evening’s program the public can be assured of a real treat. The M. E. district Missionary convention called a dozen or more of our ladies to Rensselaer Tuesday and Wednesday, several going as special house guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Fell. Ladies McNary, Washburn, E. B. Johnston, Wm. Ott, C. Parker, G. Morris, W. Gumm,. L. Bartoo and others. Work has begun on several new buildings, the Presbyterian church, the residences of C. Somers, H. Walker and Dale Bowman. —Abuilding boom has struck the town and the passing of the summer will bring several new and modern homes to add to the beauty of our progressive little town. The play given by the young ladies of Sacred Heart church Friday evening was before a capacity house and cleared a neat sum. The several parts of the program were well received. The moral of the play was within the comprehension of the young people, while the fun of the “Dancing Dutchman” appealed to one and all. Clubs. The Study Club holds its last regular session of the year on May 12, at the home of Mrs. Claude Townsend. A collection of views in Germany, loaned by Mr. Peter Geib, will be an attraction planned by the program committee. The annual is dated for May 9, at the home of Mrs. Howard Jones. The election of officers for 1913-14 resulted as follows: President, Rev. McNary; vice president, Mrs. H. Jones; secretary, Mrs. H. Phelps: treasurer, Mrs. W. Johnston. The club has enjoyed a profitable year and welcomes any one to its membership who is interested in the Chautauqua Reading course. The graduating class receives diplomas the first Wednesday of Fountain Park Assembly, when several will pass through the Golden Gate. Mrs. Rowe Robinson was hostess to the N. S. Sew Club and Wednesday, and on Friday is hostess to the Sew a id Sew Club. The library committee of the Federation of Clubs is at home in the library room Saturday, May 3, from 4 p. m. They will serve all callers with hot biscuits and coffee free of charge. Fourteen of the Presbyterian ladies attended the Logansport Presbyterian convention in Kentland last Thursday and Friday. They report an unusually good program and come home with many new and helpful Ideas by which the local society will be benefited. Among those in attendance were: Mrs. E. H. Bull, Mrs. John Wilson, Mra Goss, Mrs. Bartoo, Mrs. Green, Miss Irene Mann, Mrs. George Bartee, Mrs. Howard Jones, Miss Alice Jones, Mrs. Emery, Mrs. Gilbert.
