Mrs. O’Toole Kills and Bakes Garret When It Failed to Make Itself Known to Her* j~ - --> O’Toole was passing a bird store* when this sign caught his “Step In. . A Bargain Today. An Elegant Poll Parrot Which Speaks Seven Languages for Sale.” O’Toole went in. “What are yip askin’ for the bird?” be ashed. “One Dollar, and it’s a sacrifice,”* said the dealer. "You’re on,” said O’Toole. "Put* the beast in a cage and send it out> to Mrs. Ellen O’Toole to the Shan* rock apartments on the drive.” Then, he continued on bis way home, so anxious was he to try the parrot out on the language thing, and when the whistle blew be was the first man out. Running home he dashed in upon his wife and exclaimed with face aglow: “Did'the bird come, IHin?” “It did, Dinny, and it's stuffed, baked nnd ready for ye, bnt I’m tollin' ye, Dinny, there’s no more than a pick on the thing.” “Ye cooked it?” screamed O’Toole. “Sure,” said Mrs. O’Toole. • - ” 'Twasn’t to be killed, Min,” cried O’Toole. “Sure, the poor green thing was a present to ye—’twas a talking parrot.
