HIGH SCHOOL NOTES.
The eivics class, consisting of 22 members, assisted the city health officer Wednesday afternoon in an inspection tour of the city. They were divided Into six squads, each having a leader and a district to work in. Before starting, Dr. Gwin “grave them their instructions and asked each in particular to be as careful as possible In their inspection. ‘ , According to the testimony of several, this was a big undertaking, and the class was about tired out when they had completed their districts, They- have not compiled a complete report, but enough has been reported to lead one to think that the city was in very good condition, and many had heeded the request of the health officer and cleaned up beforehand. Each leader is asked to hand to the health board a report of their work and the places where tags were left. This is no doubt an excellent move and should interest the boys jjnd girls in the cause of civic improvement, which will help much in cheating a civic pride in our community. The six. weeks’ grades were given out Wednesday. It was evident from th§ expression on the faces of the pupils, that In many cases the deportment grade would have to be raised by those expecting to be exempted. The copies of the play: “What Happened to Jones,” are expected this week and the parts will probably be assigned Friday The last literary program, which is to he given Wednesday, is being given special attention. It is to he a musical, the members of both societies taking part, and two periods will be devoted to this entertainment instead of one as has been the custom. Miss Stover has carefully prepared several numbers and this will no doubt be the best program of the year. Attorney Dunlap gave the -students a very interesting talk Wednesday morning. Plans are now under way for a field and track meet with Monticello high school on May 10th, but the place of holding it has not been decided on. Several promising men are out and include such men as Choate, McCarthy, Miller, Padgitt, Garriofct, Putts, Greenlee and Eigelsbach. A strong team Should be built up in two or three years.
