COLLEGEVILLE.

Carl Stach, of Dayton, Ohio, was the last of the flood sufferers of the students to return to the college, • SFrfrmg- Wednesday afternoon. Rev. W. R. Arnold, a graduate of Sfe.*J©seph*s in the class of 1902, and at present assistant pastor. of 'St. Pern, -rias ’UeeiT appointed a chaplain in the U. S. army. And his appointment has the senate confirmation. For some time he will be stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Very Rev. Bonifaco Russ, C.PP.S. Provincial, Carthagena, Ohio, Rev. George HindeJang, C.PP.S., Celina, Ohio, Rev. Mark Hamburger, C.PP.S., Cincinnati, Rev. Raphael Schmaus, C.PPiJ., Ft. Recovery, Ohio, spent several days at the college during the last week. Rev. Alphonse Mueller, C.PP.S., a missionary with headquarters at St. Joseph’s Brother House, has gone to Rome to take a special course in missionary work. At the last regular meeting the C. L S. enjoyed an unusually interesting program. Thomas Harrington gave an instructive address on the historic and human interest in Abalard and Heloise. George Sindelar held the closest attention of the audience with a well rendered selection. The annexation of Canada by the United States was discussed by Herman Daniel and Antony Nadolny; the arguments of the. debate were pointed and the presentation spirited. The cast of characters for the commencement play were also announced. )

The lo«al base ball season was opened on the afternoon of April 20, when the Varsity defeated the strong St. Xavier team 3 to 1. Though the score was low the game was rather slow, get cleanly played. The bulk of the work was done by the pitchers, Lill and Landoll, the former getting 17 strike-outs to the latter’s 15, and the hits were 3 off Lill and 5 off Landoll. The team work of the Varsity needs much improvement and daily practice will put them into shape for the heavy May schedule. The following constitute the Varsity: Paul Deery, Mgr; Charles McArdle, Captain; Eugene Steffes, George Sindelar, Herman Daniel, Michael Petzold, James Fitzgerald, Rudolph Roof, Gerald Maloney, Ray Schraff, Joseph Lill. Loyola Academy scheduled to play on Saturday plays of Friday afternoon at the request of >the out-state team. On Sunday afternoon the St. Xavier will make a second attempt to capture the local championship honor. Lill will do the slab work for the Varsity.
