Dispatches from Washington, D. C., state that Joseph Stewart, holdover second assistant postmaster general, may be retained in that office by the new postmaster general for an indefinite time. Mr. Burleson recognizes that Mr. Stewart has a technical knowledge of railway mail matters that will make him almost Isdispensable. Congressman John B. Peterson, of the Tenth congressional district, has chosen Edwin Green as his private secretary. Mr. Green was formerly a resident of Chesterton in Porter county, but had wandered out to Kansas City when Congressman Peterson applied the doctrine of the “recall” and summoned him to take a nice agreeable Job in Washington.

The William and John Russ land, consisting of 240 acres in the extreme northeast corner of ’ Union township, was sold, or rather the sale was completed, yesterday to Thos. Davis, of near Kniman. The sale price was $9,000, and Mr. Davis the Jungles ditch tax, which will'be almost $2,000. There are no building improvements on the land. Mr. Davis owns 150 acres which is separated from the land he just purchased by a tract of 80 acres. The land had been owned by William and John Russ, who live in Harrisburg, Pa., for several years. A. Halleck and Joe Davisson made the deal. An owl became entangled in the wires of the Bell Telephone company at Bedford in such a way as to place a trouble call.
