Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Wood, of Detroit, Mich., are here for a visit of two weeks with relatives and friends. Mr. Wood, who is engaged in the manufacture of artificial limbs in Detroit, is arranging to establish a branch factory at South Bend. C. M. Sands, assistant cashier of the State Bank, was in Lafayette yesterday, where his sister, Miss Lydia E. Sands, a trained nurse, underwent a surgical operation at the Home Hospital, of which she Is a graduate nurse. While attending a case in Illinois about ten days ago Miss Sgnds contracted a severe cold, which caused an abscess of the mastoid or temporal bone behind the left ear. An operation similar to the one performed last fall on Miss Madeline Ramp was performed, although the case was probably not nearly so severe, because taken promptly after the inflammation set in. She withstood the operation very well and indications point to her recovery.
