Sherman, in the senate, announcement was made of a plan to erect by private subscription In Washington a $75,000 monument to commemorate tata name. Former Congressman Lucius N. Llt-

tauer of New York, intimate friend of Mr. Sherman, has been here for some days and has Initiated the movement. He has nearly half the required sum already subscribed. Mr. Littauer has no doubt he will be able to raise the remainder of the amount. He is wealthy and his friends say he will give all the remainder of the sum himself rather than see the project fall.
