L. Harper went to Indianapolis Friday to preach the funeral service of Alexander Tompkins, a member of the church he had formerly been pastor of. George Culp, living on the Charlie Porter farm, north of town, suffered a eolles fracture of the wrist Thursday. Hornaday, of Indianapolis, who had been attending the auto show and visiting In Chicago, came here yesterday for a short visit with Mrs. E. P. Honan, Mrs. Laura Fate and Mrs. F. E. Babcock. Miss Virginia Brooks, the West Hammond reformer, has announced she intends to become a candidate for justice of the peace against Frank Green, the incumbent.' Miss Brooks decided on her candidacy after she learned no man in the town was willing to run against Green. Mrs. A. C. Robinson entertained at a Valentine dinner Friday, two of the Rensselaer school teachers, Miss Cora Dexter and Miss Edith VanArsdel, and also Miss Mary /Jane Brown. The decorations were flowers and hearts and the favors were heart-shaped sacks filled with afterdinner mints. Mrs. J. Gibbons and Mrs. H. E. Southwick, of Hoopeston, 111., returned to their home today after a visit at Medaryville and a brief visit here with Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Gray. They were neighbors and girlhood friends of Mrs. Gray, but had not seen her for twentyfive years.
