King makes a suggestion, which seems to be a good one, that along with the beautifying of lawns, it would be a good idea for the telephone, telegraph and light companies to paint their poles white for a distance of twenty feet from the ground. It is reported that Heath and Ford,, the young men who attacked Homer Babb at Remington Wednesday evening, returned the next night and again attacked him as he was entering his home near the Fountain Park grounds. The weapon used was a heavy cane, which was found lying broken nearby the next morning. The young men at last reports were still at large. It has been decided not to ap point a guardian for B. J. Gifford at this time, but to take steps to look after the matters of business that are the most urgent. The most pressing thing at this time is the settlement of the delinquent taxes, all of Mr. Gifford’s lands in Jasper county being advertised at tax sale. This sale is to take place a week from next Tuesday,'February 11th. Should the lands be sold at that time the cost of redemption would be considerable and it is quite certain that arrangements will be made to provide for this emergency before the date of sale.
