they are small enough to wrap a string 72 inches long around lengthwise and widthwise. The postage wiU be based on the weight of package and the distance carried. The entire United States Jhas been mapped into rectangles, each of which is a zone center, and every postoffice has been furnished with a map showing the zones as measured from that particular center. Rensselaer is in rectangle No. 2,017, which includes an area of one-half geographical degree each way. This is the center-.of a series of concentric circles ranging from 50 to 1,800 miles in radius. The areas between these circled are called zones, and

ATTACKED BY HORSE; SEVERELY INJURED
Family Driving Horse Infuriated at Smell of Blood Jumped on f Harvey Rowland. Harvey Rowland, 22 years of age, son of Peter Rowland, of Carpenter 'township, had one of the pelvic ,or hip bones shattered Tuesday and suffered other-injuries when he was attacked by the family driving horse that had always been perfectly gentle. Mr. Rowland had been butchering hogs and had the blood on his hands when his sister drove home from school. He started to unhitch the animal, which at once became vicious, apparently from the smell of the blood, and jumped right on Rowland and knocked him down and would probably have killed him had not his father come to the rescue and succeeded in whipping the infuriated animal off. Harvey was badly bruised up and examination proved that one of the pelvic bones was broken. He will be laid up for some time.

ONE WEEK HOLIDAY FOR CITY SCHOOLS
Begins Next Monday and Continues For the Week—Resumes Again On December 30th. It has been decided to have only one week for vacation at the holiday season. It will begin next Monday, Dec. 23rd, and continue for the week, the schools resuming on the following Monday, Dec. 30th. Some delays were occasioned during the fall by reason of the new school building and in order not to prolong the schools at the close of the school year the curtailed holiday vacation was agreed upon. The district schools throughout the county will hold school Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23 and 24, and then dismiss until Thursday, Jan. 2nd. This is the general rule but‘there will be a number of exceptions where teachers from other places wish to reach their homes the day before Christmas, in which cases the schools will close on Monday night. The semi-annual examinations in the district schools of. the county are being held today apd tomorrow. Why not a nice bedspread? Lee has a good line. Rev. Parrett will preach a Christmas sermon at Egypt school house next Sunday at 2:30 p. m. Remember, our Phone number is 202. ROWEN & KISER. The winners were Pullin Bros., of Barkley township, and County Commissioner Hershman, of Walker township. Emmet Pullin was with his exhibit in Chicago and found that his Barred Rocks were to be exhibited against the universally famed exhibits of the Hawkins, Henderson and Owens farms and that one man had an exhibit of birds that had cost him $5,000. But in the face of this competition he won first with his cockerel bred pen and third with his cockerel
